Pupils from a Watford primary school took part in music-based workshops at 10 Downing Street as part of Comic Relief.

Organised by Akshata Murty, wife of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the innovative learning sessions were centred around music with the aim of providing children with the opportunity to experience the history of 10 Downing Street.

The participants – which included pupils from Year 5 and 6 at Cherry Tree Primary School – experienced a wide range of workshops covering a variety of disciplines on Friday (March 15).

This included a rap workshop led by Ed Hallwood, a youth worker from the Comic Relief-supported initiative Waves Music Therapy.

Using music to improve children's literacy skills, the project aims to boost confidence and aid in forming bonds.

Students got the chance to work in teams to explore a beat, compose lyrics using rhyming exercises, and deliver short performances showcasing their budding rap skills.

Mrs Murty said: "It was wonderful to welcome the team from Waves Music Therapy to Downing Street and see the joy and creativity they brought to the kids during Lessons at 10.

"Comic Relief helps to fund so many amazing charities around the world, having raised over £1 billion in the last 30 years."
