South Oxhey schoolchildren have been given a glimpse into American policing courtesy of a Florida-based officer who happens to be a Watford FC fan.

In an online event, youngsters at Woodhall School were given the chance to quiz officer Marc of Sarasota County Police from across the Atlantic.

This follows a similar exchange in November 2023, where PCSOs Chris Baldwin and Ross Huegdon from the Oxhey Neighbourhood Policing Team gave a virtual talk to schoolchildren in Florida.

For the latest meet, children from Years 4 and 5 learnt about contrasts and similarities between the UK and the US, including time zones and schooling structures.

This led them to put forward questions for Marc, including the demanding nature of his role, his views on US gun laws, and whether he’d seen an alligator.

PCSO Ross Huegdon said: "When we finally met Officer Marc, it was 1.30pm in South Oxhey but 8.30am in Florida.

"It was fascinating to hear about his job and we managed to squeeze all of our questions into the meeting.

"We found out that Officer Marc had spent some time in Watford when he was a boy... and that he still supports Watford FC."
