A 10-year-old girl, eight-year-old boy, and a woman in her 30s remain in hospital with serious injuries after a fatal crash on the M1, Herts Police have confirmed.

They are still in medical care following the incident between Bricket Wood and Watford at about 8.10pm on Easter Monday.

A man in his 50s and an 18-year-old woman died at the scene after a silver Range Rover careered off the southbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 6.

No other vehicles were reported as being involved and no arrests have been made, Herts Police said today (April 3).

Four fire engines, five ambulances and multiple medical support vehicles rushed to the scene where they found three people trapped in the vehicle.

Sergeant Stephanie Corletto, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with all those affected at this extremely sad and difficult time.”

Anyone with information has been urged to report it via non-emergency number 101, or via the Herts Police website, quoting ISR 583 of April 1.
