More than 100 Watford children are enjoying free swimming sessions, thanks to two leisure centres.
Watford Central Leisure Centre and Watford Woodside Leisure Centre have implemented the Adopt a School programme.
The initiative, launched in October 2023, aims to improve children's confidence in the water at the leisure centres which are both managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Watford Borough Council.
Wesley Miko, contract sales manager at Everyone Active, said: "We are incredibly proud to offer local children the opportunity to not only improve their safety in the water but to also experience the physical and wellbeing benefits of swimming.
"Whether they are strong swimmers or have never set foot in a swimming pool environment, our goal through our Adopt a School programme is to ensure every child feels confident in the water – both because we want them to enjoy swimming, but also in case their experience and knowledge of water safety can help in an emergency situation in the future.
"We hope to continue to help as many students, parents and teachers in the borough as we can through the scheme."
As part of the programme, 13 Watford schools have been provided with free access to the centres’ swimming pools for an entire month.
Included in the scheme are free memberships for parents and teachers, giving them access to the gym, pool, classes, sauna, and steam room.
Parents are also offered unlimited free family swimming sessions with their children.
Since the programme's inception, both Watford Leisure Centres have seen more than 21 sign-ups to their swimming schemes.
