A lucky Watford Community Lottery player has scooped a £2,000 prize, marking the first substantial win in the initiative's history.

The winner, who decided to remain anonymous, is a dedicated supporter of Shopmobility Watford, a service offering free wheelchair and scooter loans to local shoppers.

For each £1 lottery ticket purchased by the player, and other supporters, the charity receives 60p.

Paul Stacey, associate director of Environment and Communities at Watford Borough Council, said: "We're thrilled to extend our congratulations to our £2,000 jackpot winner, and we also extend our gratitude to the player for their consistent weekly contributions to local good causes in the town.

"With every ticket sold, we're able to support vital local causes, like Shopmobility Watford, which makes a tangible difference in the lives of our residents."

The foundation, which has improved odds compared to national lotteries, already boasts two £250 wins and many £25 victories.

With tickets at £1 per week, players have a 1 in 50 chance to win each week, with the opportunity for a mega £25,000 win.

Since its inception in June 2023, the Watford Community Lottery has accumulated £25,904.40 in donations for various local charities.

From each £1 ticket, 60p is designated to support Watford's community sources, exceeding the traditional National Lottery's 25 per cent for good causes.
