Passengers on a 321 bus to Uxbridge found their journey held up in unusual circumstances outside Watford Junction 60 years ago.
These extraordinary snaps were captured by a Watford Observer photographer on June 6, 1964 and show a crowd, including many children, captivated as elephants and horses parade past.
Our photographer’s diary lists the assignment as ‘circus at junction’ and gives no further details, so it is not known whether the animals and performers had arrived by train at the station or where the circus was taking place.

- Who was on the bill with the Rolling Stones at this Watford show?
However, a closer look at the front of the bus shows the route at the time of one of the longest standing services in the area.
The pictures show the 321 started in St Albans and went via Garston, Watford, Rickmansworth and Maple Cross before ending in Uxbridge.
