Dacorum Liberal Democrats have suspended a former council leader over “anonymous” misconduct allegations.
Councillor Ron Tindall, of the Adeyfield West ward in Hemel Hempstead, has been suspended from the party’s branch at Dacorum Borough Council, according to a statement on its website.
Cllr Tindall, who led the authority which covers Kings Langley for a year until this May, will continue as an independent while it investigates the allegations - which he said he "absolutely" denies.
He has also resigned as portfolio holder for people and transformation in the cabinet. Alternative arrangements are being made, the council said.

“The council will not be commenting any further on this matter until the investigation, and associated internal procedures, are concluded,” Dacorum Borough Council added.
Councillor Ron Tindall said he had been asked to stand down temporarily but he was “confident” he would be reinstated a Liberal Democrat despite his current independent status.
There have been “a couple of anonymous allegations” from within the party, according to the councillor, but he declined to comment further on their nature and claimed to have not been told the full details.
“From what I know of them, I deny them absolutely," Cllr Tindall stressed. “I would ask any resident who still is faced with a problem to contact me the usual way.
"As far as I’m concerned, my first duty is to my residents so therefore I will continue to look after them.”
