Memories of Kudos nightclub in Watford becoming Destiny

From Top Rank to Pryzm, Baileys to Oceana, the biggest former nightclub in Watford went through several incarnations in its near 60-year history – and one of those came at the end of the last century.

A Watford Observer photographer visited the high street venue on January 5, 1999 to capture the scenes as workmen set above removing the giant ‘K’ above the entrance.

(Image: Watford Observer) Our snapper was allowed inside to see one workman sweeping the floor while another surveyed what appeared to be a pile of metal and wiring after the interior of the building started to be ripped out.

(Image: Watford Observer) Less than three months after Kudos closed, our photographer was back at the venue for the start of a new chapter in the town’s night life as Destiny was born.
