On this day in 2022, plans to replace Hertfordshire's biggest nightclub, Pryzm, with 147 flats were officially submitted.

A month earlier, it was revealed the popular Watford clubbing venue was under threat from closure as the building's owners proposed to redevelop the site.

The plans also included the Iceland supermarket, car park, and other venues within the premises, which would likely result in the closure of Pryzm and the other businesses.

According to planning documents submitted by consultants Sphere 25, the proposal aimed to deliver a "high-quality" residential-led development of 147 flats of up to eight storeys.

Additionally, there would be some commercial and/or retail space, which would include 51 parking spaces.

In March, a consultation was held on behalf of the applicants detailing the plans; however, it only received 27 responses, with the majority expressing concerns about losing the club.
