Carpdenders Park Cemetery attack: £5k reward for information

Dozens of burial sites were targeted in an Islamophobic attack at the Oxhey Lane site sometime between 1pm on Friday, April 11, and 5pm the next day.

No one has been arrested and Herts Police have issued no suspect descriptions.

(Image: Wadi Funeral.) Crimestoppers has now said it will offer a reward of up to £5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

“This shocking act of vandalism has sparked outrage and condemnation from the local community, prompting individuals from various backgrounds to unite against this hate crime,” a spokesperson said.

“As an independent charity, we are supporting the investigation by offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information we exclusively receive that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this vandalism.”

Information can be reported anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for free, or via the charity’s website crimestoppers-uk.org.

“Crimestoppers provides a pathway for individuals to share information anonymously, allowing them to contribute without fear of repercussions. It is vital that we work together to ensure that the sanctity of our loved ones’ resting places is maintained.”

Chief Superintendent Jon Simpson added the force is investigating “every line of enquiry into this terrible crime, which we continue to treat as an Islamophobic act”.

“We would like to reassure those affected, and the wider Muslim community, that we are continuing to treat this crime extremely seriously,” he added.

The reward will only be payable for information passed directly to the charity and not to the police, the Crimestoppers spokesperson said, and a reward code must be asked for when calling.

If using the online form anonymously, the 'keeping in contact’ facility must be used and a reward code must be requested on initial contact.

(Image: Cllr Asif Khan) Following the attack, around 100 people gathered at Carpenders Park Cemetery for an interfaith vigil as a show of unity.

Adnan Rafique, chair of Bushey Islamic Circle, said: "Your presence—whether in prayer, in silence, or in solidarity—was not only a powerful act of compassion and unity, but a message to the world that we will never allow hatred, division, or acts of desecration to define us or tear us apart.”

Cllr Asif Khan added: “What we witnessed was a moment of great sorrow transformed into an expression of great strength. Together, we sent a clear message—hate has no place in our communities.

"We will always choose peace over fear, unity over division, and courage over silence.”
