The victim of a stabbing in West Watford was given CPR at the scene before being rushed to hospital, a close friend has said.

The Watford Observer understands the 34-year-old man was stabbed in Harwoods Recreation Ground on Sunday (October 12) shortly before 8.30pm, then made his way to a nearby block of flats in Franklin Avenue where a friend administered CPR until the ambulance arrived.

At time of writing, he remains in hospital in a critical condition, according to police, having suffered two stab wounds to his neck and another under his arm.

No one has been arrested and no suspect descriptions have been issued by the force.

One shocked neighbour told the Watford Observer that the situation is "a disaster" and pointed to dried blood still on the floor.

UPDATE: Three teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The chef, who has lived in the block for six years, said this was the first major incident he has been close to, although said he now feels safe after police knocked on doors and remained at the scene until around 5pm on Monday.

As of yesterday (October 14), a significant police presence remained at Harwoods Recreation Ground, with a cordon in place and the park closed to the public.

A mum-of-three said that she and her neighbours were worried that "it was going to be a murder" and said that her teenage sons are "pretty shaken up" by what happened.

She has lived on the road for 12 years and said that "things have been a bit funny here lately", pointing to an arson which happened nearby earlier this year.

Another neighbour - who works at Watford General Hospital - said that she had no idea what had happened until she came out to get a parcel on Sunday evening and saw all the police and ambulance crew.

"Of course I am a bit worried because I live nearby and have no idea exactly what happened," she said.

A police investigation is ongoing, with Detective Inspector Chris Parperi, of Watford CID, saying: "At this early stage in our enquiries, detectives are working to establish the exact circumstances, but we are treating this as an isolated incident involving people we believe are known to one another.

“I understand that news of this incident will be concerning to the public, and we would like to reassure residents that there is a heightened police presence in the area as enquiries continue, so please do not hesitate to speak to an officer at the scene if you have any concerns."
