A woman in her 80s had to be rescued from her car after driving into a retail park wall.

Emergency services were called to Apsley Retail Park Wall at 3.30pm on Wednesday (April 8) after the pensioner's blue Audi Q4 smashed into the wall by the Next store.

After being freed from the vehicle, she was left in the care of the East of England Ambulance Service.

An EEAST spokesperson said: "An ambulance and ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene. The driver of the car, an adult woman, was assessed and did not require to be taken to hospital.”

Police confirmed that no arrests have been made.

A picture circulating on social media shows the hole in a wall next to the storefront, with a fire engine also visible at the scene.

Social media users reported that the store was forced to close as a result of the crash and it appears to also be shut today, according to Google.

Next has been contacted for confirmation of when the store will reopen.

Opening hours for the shop now list it as being shut today, although it is planned to open as usual from 9am tomorrow.

The 12,000 square foot branch opened in October last year and created 40 jobs in the area.

Its usual opening hours are 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm on Saturdays, and 10.30am to 6pm on Sundays.
