A luxury classic train billed as offering a "return to the golden age of railway travel" is set to pick up passengers from Watford Junction.

On its return journey, the train will arrive back in Watford at 10.35pm.

Other stops are in Milton Keynes, Leighton Buzzard, Berkhamsted, Slough, Maidenhead and Reading.

The train will be steam-hauled from Taunton by an "immaculately restored" engine, according to the promoter's website.

It is a popular journey amongst reviewers, with the train possessing a 4.6 score on Tripadvisor from 446 reviews.

The website says: "At Paignton we join the steeply graded heritage line and travel alongside the beautiful River Dart with views of HMS Britannia – not a ship but the college that has trained generations of naval officers.

"We soon arrive at the riverside terminus at Kingswear, where it is a short crossing on the ferry (price included) to the historic and romantic port of Dartmouth – there are antique shops, galleries, and cafes to explore or perhaps take a leisurely cruise on the river Dart. There should be around three hours at leisure before we return in the late afternoon."

Tickets start at £245, while "Pullman dining" is available from £465.

Tickets can be booked via the Saphos Trains website.
