These four Watford-area businesses have all received a failing grade for food hygiene in recent weeks.
The Watford Observer regularly publishes the latest food hygiene news and we have rounded up all of the recent 1/5 and 0/5 ratings from over the last month or so.
Gusto Italia - 1/5
This Bushey restaurant got off to an inauspicious start after being caught unprepared by an inspection soon after opening.
Gusto Italia Restaurant took over the former Par 3 Lounge unit at the Bushey Golf and Country Club building in High Street, Bushey, at the end of February.
Hertsmere Borough Council inspectors visited on March 31 and the report has now been published, warning “major improvement” is necessary.
Management at the restaurant highlighted how soon after opening the inspection had come and stressed that all issues raised during the inspection have since been addressed.
Bright Beginnings Nursery - 1/5
Bright Beginnings Herts, based at The School House in Church Lane, Aldenham, was scored generally satisfactory for both its hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of its facilities.
However, in a recently published score, Hertsmere Borough Council inspectors said “major improvement” was needed in the management of food safety following a March 30 visit.
Following the rating's publication, Bright Beginnings Herts, which opened on March 4, told the Watford Observer that necessary files were not on site at the time of the inspection.

Secret Garden Café - 1/5
The Secret Garden Café in Bushey has blamed paperwork issues for the rating, which was published on Tuesday (April 28) just weeks after it opened.
It was told "major improvement" is needed in the management of food safety, with "improvement" also needed in terms of hygienic food handling. The cleanliness and condition of the building was rated "very good".
The business is located on the grounds of Reveley Lodge, a Grade II listed Victorian house and public garden in Elstree Road.
A spokesperson said: "The rating was primarily due to us not having our Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) pack on site during the inspection, as it had been taken home, which meant we weren’t able to demonstrate our documented checks (such as temperature records) on the day.
"We want to reassure customers that food safety has always been taken seriously and the required systems were in place — we simply couldn’t evidence them at the time of the visit."
Peri Peri Original - 0/5
Peri Peri Original, which says it operates over 40 stores nationwide, had its Hemel Hempstead Marlowes branch inspected on March 5 and received the worst possible score in two of the three categories it was assessed on: management of food safety and the cleanliness and condition of the building.
Its handling of food was "generally satisfactory".
