A Bushey restaurant has been told that 'major improvement' is needed after being hit with a 1/5 food hygiene rating.

Inspectors visited Sabores Restaurant on April 23, with the damning verdict being made available on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) this week.

The Brazilian eatery received a failing grade in the management of food safety category, being told that 'major improvement' is necessary, the second lowest score that can be given.

This category refers to the "system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat and evidence that staff know about food safety".

It also requires the food safety officer to have "confidence that standards will be maintained in future".

The Bushey Hall Road restaurant was also rated 'improvement necessary' in the other two categories - cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, and the hygienic food handling category.

Sabores does not have any reviews on Tripadvisor but has a 3.7 score from 136 reviews on Google.

The business has been approached for comment on the rating.

It means that there are now 15 businesses in Hertsmere that hold a 1/5 rating, while none possess a 0/5 rating.
