One of Britain's most iconic luxury trains will be picking up passengers from Watford Junction tomorrow (June 10).

The Midland Pullman HST will depart from the station at 7.20am on its journey to Rugby, where it will arrive at 8.50am.

Train enthusiasts will be able to catch a second glimpse of it at 10.40pm, when it completes its return journey at the station.

It will also stop at Hemel Hempstead, Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes Central, Northampton, Long Buckby and Rugby.

The Midland Pullman HST was the nation's first luxury high speed diesel-electric train and used to run in the early 1960s between London St Pancras and Manchester Central.

These days enthusiasts can book a seat after it was brought back into use for an experience advertised as “more five-star hotel than railway carriage”.

Tomorrow's journey is fully sold out but trainspotters will be able to get a glimpse of the train when it arrives on the platform in Watford.

The experience's website says: "This special tour includes a journey along the entire majestic route of the famous Settle to Carlisle railway; with great limestone peaks and deep valleys we travel over viaducts and through tunnels on this masterpiece of Victorian engineering – including the famous Ribblehead Viaduct.

"Following a break in the historic border city of Carlisle we return over the same spectacular route."

This will be the second time this year that the train has visited Watford after a previous journey in March.
