The famous Cumbrian Mountain Express train picked up passengers from Watford Junction yesterday (June 20).

A picture shared via the Watford Observer Camera Club shows the train at the station on the third of four visits to the town this year.

The Watford visits are part of a tour marking 150 years since the first train travelled over the popular Settle & Carlisle Railway line. To celebrate, the Railway Touring Company is putting on a series of "steam specials".

Train enthusiasts have one more chance to view or even ride the train when it visits again on August 1.

The train collects passengers from Watford after starting its journey at London Euston.

Further stops will be at Rugby, Nuneaton, Crewe and Preston. The train will then be joined by a historic steam locomotive at Carnforth to cross the Cumbrian Fells for a break in border city Carlisle before returning via the Settle & Carlisle Railway.

Kelly Osborne, managing director of the Railway Touring Company, said: "Justifiably internationally famous, the Settle & Carlisle Railway is truly breathtaking, a journey made even more exciting when combined with steam.

"Our steam-hauled trains offer that opportunity both to new generations of rail enthusiasts and to people simply looking for a memorable day out.”

The train previously visited Watford on March 28 and May 9.
