Police have confirmed why a helicopter was seen flying over Croxley Green for hours last night (July 13).
The force have this morning told the Watford Observer that it was deployed as part of a concern for welfare search that was "brought to a safe conclusion" at around 2.35am.
Speculation was rife on social media from around 10pm, with police officers also seen scouring in and around Rousebarn Lane and Whippendell Woods.
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) is deployed to a missing person search when the individual is classified as "high risk".
This typically includes children and adults who are considered vulnerable. The helicopters are also deployed to search for injured people and support counter-terrorism operations.
NPAS says that its aircrafts can fly at top speeds of 138mph.

It also searches for suspects wanted in criminal cases, as was the case in Watford on Friday night (July 10).
A helicopter search of the Cherry Tree Road area led to a 21-year-old man being arrested on suspicion of robbery.
Three men were involved in the row, with two of them believed to have been in a Mercedes car, while the other was on a large black electric bike.
A large police presence was deployed in addition to the helicopter.
