More than 200 people have signed a petition to "save" a Post Office after its impending closure was confirmed.
Hemel Hempstead's Morrisons Daily and Post Office is set to close next week as part of cost-cutting measures by the supermarket chain.
Local councillor Pete Hannell said: "I am sorry to break disappointing news but Morrisons have taken the decision to close their store at Bennetts Gate, effective 21st August. The Post Office branch will close on 18th August.
"I know that Morrisons have found a new party to take on the remainder of their lease but it is not tied to the running of a Post Office. Therefore at this point, I cannot guarantee that a Post Office counter can be retained in Bennetts End."

The petition has been signed 205 times as of Friday morning, with the text reading: "We are calling on Post Office Ltd to stop the potential closure of Bennetts End Post Office and protect this vital local service for residents across Bennetts End, Leverstock Green and the surrounding communities.
"For many people, a post office is a simple everyday convenience. But for elderly, disabled and less mobile residents, it can be an essential lifeline."
It goes on to claim that "closure would hit those who can least afford to lose it".
