Major break-in forces Robert Harris Jewellers to close

Robert Harris Jewellers - which has operated in Rickmansworth since 1968 - suffered "considerable damage" to its storefront, door, windows and display cabinets after it was targeted in the early hours of Sunday morning (August 31).

It will be closed for "at least the next few days" while the damage is being fixed.

Richard Harris, son of founder Robert and the current manager of the store, said: "Thankfully, although the damage is bad, the losses are not as serious as they might have been, as most of our stock is securely stored overnight.

"Most importantly, all jewellery and watches belonging to our customers are safe. No customer repairs or items left with us for valuation were taken, as they too were safely stored."

Customers have been advised that they can pick up items by coming to the store and following the instructions displayed outside.

Richard added: "We have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people locally since it happened. So many customers, neighbouring businesses and members of the community have contacted us with messages of concern and offers of help. It’s been a stressful couple of days full of brilliant people."

A Herts Police spokesperson said: " It was reported that glass was smashed and enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what was taken.

"The suspects were described as two men, approximately 5ft 9ins tall and of slim build, wearing dark clothing with their faces covered."

 Police have asked that information be reported to them online or by calling 101 and quoting crime reference number 41/83123/26.

Pictures shared with the Watford Observer show that on Sunday there was a police car and cordon outside the shop.
