A CD of music by Three Rivers teenagers will be launched this month.

About 50 youngsters from youth clubs in South Oxhey, Bedmond, Mill End and Rickmansworth have produced the CD, which is aimed at people their own age.

Four songs feature on the CD High, which has been produced to professional standards to spread drugs awareness information across the district.

The tracks, which have been written by the 13 to 19 year olds, are a mixture of ska, rap, drum 'n' base and house. The CD cover has also been designed by the teenagers and the CD will be available free of charge from local libraries, youth clubs and secondary schools from the end of June.

The project was organised by Hertfordshire County Council and Three Rivers District Council, with financial support from the Home Office's Communities Against Drugs fund. The participants worked with a drugs education expert to focus on the issues and expel the myths that surround drug culture.

They worked with professional music technicians on laptops and in music studios in Watford and South Oxhey to write the lyrics, compose the music and record the songs.

The launch will be held at Bedmond Village Hall in Bedmond High Street on Thursday, June 26. Young people at The Zone in South Oxhey have been designing posters for the event, which is by invitation only.

Parents and guardians, county and district councillors, and youth workers have been invited to the launch, which will feature Hip Hop dance routines choreographed and performed by the young people, with help from Watford-based dance company Culture Shock.
