WHILE hundreds of teachers heave a sigh of relief next month as they dust down their chalk boards for the well earned summer break, a headteacher from Watford looks forward to brushing up on her communication skills as she takes to Uganda to teach.

Mrs Lynne Pritchard of Richmond Drive, Watford will forgo her six week holiday this year when she boards a plane on Sunday, July 20 heading for the Masindi region of Uganda.

Once there Mrs Pritchard who is currently a head- teacher at Whitefriars School in Harrow, will stay in traditional accommodation with a local family.

During her six weeks in Uganda Mrs Pritchard will work alongside staff at a local school observing the way they work and to provide support and further assistance in the development of a number of key learning initiatives and teacher training.

With as many as 100 children to a class, the excursion is likely to be a two way learning curve, as the established head witnesses first-hand the way teachers manage with the limited resources available.

She also wants to see how staff in the UK adapt and cope when she returns and poses them with the challenges her friends in the Masindi region face.
