A SENIOR police officer from Hertfordshire has been charged with drink driving.
Inspector Elizabeth Byron, formerly the head of road policing in the county, is due to appear before magistrates in Bishop Auckland, Durham on June 25.
Although she is currently on sick leave, the Inspector has been with Hertfordshire Police for 24 years.
A spokesman for the force said: "Hertfordshire Constabulary's Complaints and Discipline are aware of the case and once the matter has progressed through the court, it will investigate the matter fully.
"Incidents of this nature are treated very seriously by the Constabulary."
