A SINGING group, whose future was in doubt because it could not find a new accompanist, will carry on entertaining local audiences after an urgent appeal for help was published in The Watford Observer.

Members of the Bushey Concert Group, which stages regular shows all over Hertfordshire, feared the group would have to fold after 20 years because they had nobody to play piano for them.

But after their plight was featured in this newspaper, a pianist got in touch with the group and looks set to step into the shoes of stalwart musician Alice Fisher, who retired aged 91.

The group, which specialises in songs from the shows and tunes from the 1940's and 1950's, performs up to twice a week at nursing homes, clubs, concert halls and parties, and raises money for various charity causes.

Singer Michael Kendrick said he was delighted it had been saved.

He said: "I thought we were going to fold but it now looks like we can carry on for a year or so."
