THE ultimate Christmas present for the young man in your life went on show in a charity shop window in Chorleywood today (Monday).

The red hot Ferrari F40 is a model version of the stuff big boys dream about and it comes complete with an up-to-the-minute service record, new battery and MOT, thanks to the local service station, Churleswood.

Panic nearly set in when manager of the Peace Hospice shop, Mrs Pauline Gilston, discovered that the unused toy car, which has been donated to the charity, refused to go into reverse and had only one forward speed.

Her plan to make the dream car the main Christmas feature and object of a silent auction, was seriously in jeopardy.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, so Mrs Gilston went to the nearby service station to see if they were able to help.

Assistant manager Mr Peter Tanzer initially had to do a double take when the Ferarri arrived on his forecourt.

However, he was able to cure Mrs Gilston's potential nightmare by not only restoring the car's reverse and two forward speeds but gave it service and provided a new battery – all for free in support of the charity.
