Explosions of colour filled the All Saints Church in Kings Langley yesterday, as the annual Flower Festival took place.

Church members and a number of local schools arranged a variety of blooms based on the theme of 'All Things Bright and Beautiful', shaping carnations, sunflowers and lilies to represent verses of the popular hymn.

Organiser Patricia Sleat said: “We’ve had a fantastic response from church members this year and we’ve based our flowers on the theme of All Things Bright and Beautiful, with flower arrangements based on each of the verses of the song.

“We have purple carnations to represent the ‘purple headed mountains’, autumn fruits intertwined with flowers to represent the ‘ripe fruits in the garden’ and sunflowers as the ‘pleasant summer sun’.”

Visitors marvelled at the wonderful floral decorations and were also able to take part in a number of organised activities including a tombola and raffle. They were also offered a chance to purchase handmade piccalli and jams from a number of stalls.

Ms Sleat said: “The festival will continue on Saturday and Sunday, with all money raised going to the church.

“Everyone has created spectacular arrangements and despite the recession, helped to make this year’s Flower Festival a tremendous success.”

The Kings Langley flower festival will continue to run at The All Saints Church, on Saturday 31 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday November 1 from 2pm to 5pm.
