A number of children’s respite centres in Hertfordshire could face closure in the coming months.

Herts County Council is currently reviewing the services offered by children’s centres in Adrian Road in Abbots Langley, Woolmer Drive in Hemel Hempstead and Stairways in Harpenden.

Pam Dajda, from Hertfordshire County Council, said: "The consultation which is going on until November 27 is looking at developing a wider range of short breaks for disabled children and their families.

"No decisions have been taken, all the responses from the consultation will be considered and the proposals are expected to be presented to the cabinet meeting in January 2010."

If the buildings are closed, they could be replaced with two new centres – one in Hertford and a second in either Hemel Hempstead or Watford.

The consultation closes on Friday, November 27 and findings will be discussed by cabinet members in spring 2010.
