Historians will learn about the life of an “extraordinary local gentleman” at the next meeting of the South West Herts Archaeological and Historical Society.

Michael Stanyon, an archivist for the Apsley Paper Trail, will lead a talk about Sir John Evans, KCB, FRS, on Wednesday, November 18.

Sir John Evans became a central figure in the British paper-making industry during the Victorian era.

He also became internationally renown as an archaeologist, numismatist and antiquary.

The meeting will begin at 8pm (doors open at 7:30pm) at Cassio Lodge, 27 The Avenue, Watford.
