Two watercolour paintings of gardens by Watford's royal artist, Beatrice Parsons, were sold for £3,500 at auction this weekend.

The pictures – A Cornish Garden, Falmouth, and The Smell of Summer – sold for £2,000 and £1,500 respectively, at Christie's in London yesterday (Sunday).

The two lots were among 180 items sold during a sale of possessions belonging to the former BBC Antiques Roadshow expert Christopher Wood, who died earlier this year.

The whole sale collected more than a quarter of a million pounds in total.

Beatrice Parsons lived and worked at 63 Kingsfield Road, Oxhey, until her death on February 17, 1955.

She specialised in garden scenes, focusing particularly on floral and herbaceous borders. Her fans included Queen Mary, who bought a number of Miss Parsons' pictures.
