How often do you find yourself paying for something in a shop or pub with an apology along the lines of “ Sorry, do you mind if I get rid of all this change…” ?

Well hopefully you`ll read this and you`ll never feel the need to apologise again as you part with your hard earned wonga

At The Three Crowns we go through about £700 of change a week with the majority of that being £1 coins.

On a busy Friday when every round of drinks seems to be paid for with a £20 note our tills can consume up to £200 worth of £1 coins.

This can be even higher if it`s a busy night on the fruit machine with machine jockeys swapping notes for coins as they chase the jackpot.

If I`m running low on £1 coins I can actually welcome the kerching of the jackpot paying out as I know that within a couple of minutes the proud winner will be standing at the bar with a row of £1 coins stacked neatly on the bartop waiting to cash them in.

In case you weren`t aware banks, building societies & post offices charge businesses a percentage for giving & receiving change.

We pay about £30 a month and it would be even higher if we didn`t swap notes for change from other sources eg when our gaming machines are emptied.

Another good source is a visit to our Cash and Carry who themselves are paid in bags of coins by some of their customers.

So in conclusion

We love change

We welcome your grush

No need to apologise as you part with it
