Youths racing and revving their mopeds on roads outside houses in Nash Mills have upset residents.

At an Abbots Langley parish council meeting yesterday, councillors were informed that youths had been riding their mopeds in an anti-social manner in Woodlands Road - much to the distress of locals.

Parish clerk Tim Perkins, reading the police report on behalf of Sergeant Canning, said: “Residents of Woodlands Road, Nash Mills, have been reporting a big problem with youths on the street riding mopeds in an anti-social manner.

“They are riding around at all times of the day and night and revving outside of the residential houses, meaning that people have had to move bedrooms to the back of their houses, in order to sleep.

“Police have attended the Neighbourhood Watch meeting along with housing association THRIVE and together will be looking at ways to stop this problem.

“The main solution we believe will be to issue section 59 and 60 notices to the bike and/or rider.

“The section 59 order lasts a period of a year, during which time if the bike is seen to cause problems again, it will be seized and the owner will have to pay to get it back.”

To date, police have issued a number of these orders and are urging residents to call in when they see offenders, with details of their bike number plates.
