Hundreds of gamers braved icy conditions in Watford in order to get their hands on one of the most highly anticipated computer games of the decade.

Tills at Game opened for “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Two” at 12:00am today.

Todd Davies, store manager, said: “We had a big queue going out the door, and we stayed open until everyone had been served. We closed up at about 1:15am in the end.”

The first person shooter, which places the player in the middle of a fight with terrorists from Russia and the Middle East, has been released to a larger gaming audience than ever.

Mr Davies said: “There was a wider range of customers for this launch, I think people who played the old game recommended it to their friends and word got out that way.”

Early indications suggest that Call of Duty may outsell the previous highest-selling game, Grand Theft Auto four, which sold over four million copies on its first day and nearly 6 million in its first week.
