A great grandmother who began her working life at the tender age of 14 is celebrating her 107th birthday today.
Dorothy Hayter, of Stratford Road, was born before the age of powered flight and is one of an ever dwindling number of people who can remember the tumultuous events of the First World War.
Since her 100th birthday in 2002 she amassed an impressive collection of three telegrams from The Queen and is expecting to receive her fourth today.
The third eldest of 13 children, she had six brothers and six sisters. She married in October 1930 and had three daughters. She has three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
