Division One (North) Wingate put up a gallant fight before bowing out to the Premier Division leaders St Albans 2-0 in a the FA Cup second qualifying round tie on Saturday.
The visitors fell behind on 30 minutes to a simple Gary Crawshaw header. Scot Oakes sent a free-kick ino the penalty area, where Gary Crawshaw soared to head home from eight yards.
St Albans went further ahead after 54 minutes when Miguel De Souza fired past keeper Andy Walker from 18 yards.
Wingate were denied a late consolation goal when City keeper Wilmot saved well from James Thompson.
