PARENTS are being reminded by Hertfordshire County Council to apply in plenty of time to obtain a school place for their child.
The deadline for applications for next September is October 15 for primary schools and November 5 for secondary schools.
Last year 13,000 primary and 16,000 secondary school applications had to be processed.
The county council hopes that the huge influx of applications that will have to be organised this year will be made lighter as parents can apply online for the first time.
Education access manager Nick Powley said: "We have already received over 500 applications on the website and parents have told us they find it very helpful.
"Many parents will choose to apply using the conventional form in their admissions booklet and we are still very happy to receive paper applications."
Families can fill in an electronic application form by logging on to <www.hertsdirect.org/
admissions>.
Anyone who has not yet received a copy of their admissions booklet is asked to contact the county council's customer services centre on 01438 737504.
