A HERTFORDSHIRE policeman has been arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children.

The 32-year-old has been on the force for 12 years and was arrested on Monday morning (September 30) following a three month investigation.

A police spokesman confirmed the arrest had been made as part of Operation Ore, a nationwide paedophile hunt which has already seen more than 100 arrests.

The operation began after the FBI passed British police a list of people whose credit card details were found on a website providing links to internet child pornography.

The spokesman added: "We can confirm we are working closely with the National Criminal Investigation Service with regards to Operation Ore but it would not be appropriate to comment any further at this stage of inquiries.

"Incidents such as these are treated in extreme seriousness by Hertfordshire Constabulary and everything will be done to make sure the investigation is expeditious and thorough."

The policeman, who is described as a uniformed officer, has been suspended from duty and bailed until Wednesday, November, 27.
