The Hertsmere Flyers Swimming Club held its annual club championships at The Venue leisure centre in Borehamwood on Saturday.

The championships gave swimmers the chance to show, in front of family and friends, how they have improved over the past year.

The organisers said that during a successful evening, 16 club records were broken by: Emma Tootill, Leanne Fernandes, Sarah Conyard, Sam Munkley, Mark Applebee, Eugene Sadovnicov, Gareth Fernandes, Ross Fernandes, Michael Barber and Steve Munkley.

A total 199 personal best times were also recorded, in all age groups and strokes.

Club secretary Debbie Conyard said: "Congratulations to each and every swimmer and a special thanks to the coach, Sue Thorpe, for all her hard work."

The Flyers were this year sponsored by Kumon, and Kumon's southern area manager, Mark Rogerson, presented certificates to the swimmers who took part in the Peanut League a competition held over three rounds in May, June and July, for swimmers aged nine to 13. These swimmers finished fifth overall in Division Three, and Emma Toothill and Mark Applebee were presented with prizes for being the most improved swimmers in the Peanut League.

Anyone interested in joining the friendly club can attend free, no-obligation trial sessions. Call Debbie on 020 8236 0840.
