The game started evenly with both teams' midfield working hard.
Wood broke the deadlock with 30 minutes gone, when a Daniel James cross was met by the foot of Darren Oxley, who scored his fourth goal in the last three games.
Sean Woods could have made it 2-0 to Wood before the break, but his shot went wide.
In the second half Wood pushed forward, looking for a second goal. They won a corner, which John Starnes took.
The referee spotted a push, and pointed to the spot. Starnes tucked the penalty away, and made the score 2-0.
But then Highbury pulled a goal back. Starnes missed two chances to wrap up the game, but Wood held out for a 2-1 victory.
Manager Andy Starnes said: "It was a close game, but we wanted it more than they did. It was all about confidence, and we have a lot of that at the moment."
