A superstar from the world of Irish music will play at a charity concert in Elstree next month and the Borehamwood & Elstree Times has five sets of tickets to give away.

Larry Cunningham is a legend in his own lifetime on the Irish Country Music scene. His 1966 hit Lovely Leitrim was in the Irish charts for 15 weeks, and in the 1970s he played to a record audience of 6,850 at The Galtymore in Cricklewood.

On November 1 he will join a star-studded line up at Allum Hall, Elstree, performing in a charity concert.

Organiser Barry Collins was thrilled when Mr Cunningham agreed to play: "He's one of the biggest names in Ireland, so I was very pleased to get him."

Mr Collins had to pull strings among his showbusiness friends to bring Mr Cunningham to Elstree.

"I remembered him from the old days, and because I know his manager I asked if he could play at the show."

The bill also includes Mr Collins' show, Irish Variety, which has just returned from a successful tour of the USA. There will be Irish Dancing from Charlene Foley and friends, and the Galty singing duo of Michael and John O'Hehir will perform. Children from Summerswood Primary School will also perform.

Last year the show raised £3,000 for charity, and this money raised will be split between the Elstree and Borehamwood Rotary Club's charity work and Macmillan Cancer Relief. Tickets, costing £10, are available at Allum Hall or the Box Office, at Macevoy Mailings, Unit 10, Gate Studios, Station Road, Borehamwood.
