A theatre should be included in the proposed redevelopment of Elstree Way, according to the town council.
Councillors, last Thursday, called for the building of a hall. similar to venues enjoyed by Radlett and Potters Bar.
They suggested as a site, vacant land next to The Venue the location for a proposed £5million theatre axed in 1999.
Councillor Bryan Stanley said: "We need to provide a facility for theatrical performances, musical performances, conferences, meeting places and family occasions."
He said if a proposal to built a hotel on the vacant site "regrettably" went ahead, the developers should also provide a hall, with a stage and tiered seating, adding: "A hotel would not be of great benefit to the people of Borehamwood, who would not be staying there."
Councillor John Nolan said: "We should have a theatre-cinema in the corridor."
The councillors opposed as part of their response to the redevelopment proposals led by Hertsmere Borough Council home-building in the corridor, because of fears of cramming and the impact on roads and services.
Borough head of planning, Richard Grove, said a theatre could be looked as part of the provision of community facilities, and he believes providing homes has benefits for the corridor including: more affordable housing; more life in the evenings and weekends, and better traffic flows, because some residents would travel at different times to office workers.
Town councillors also supported: a film museum, which could be at the Gate Studios, if it was saved, Elstree Film and Television studios, or in the town museum; a larger premises for the museum; the health clinic and family centre be moved to Furzehill School; Oaklands College kept on its present site, and a bigger library, possibly combined with the museum.
The public consultation feedback is due to be discussed by councillors on November 26.
