TWO avid members of Lifesavers The Royal Life Saving Society Hertfordshire branch received the Queen's Jubilee honour for an outstanding contribution to life-saving.

Mr Charles Ferrier, of Westfields, St Albans, and Georgina Hamilton, of Park Avenue, Harpenden, had their hard work recognised at a special ceremony at the Guildhall in London.

Mr Ferrier has been an active member, trainer assessor and training officer with Lifesavers since 1950.

During this time he has saved three people's lives.

He has also been the branch's water safety officer.

Ms Doreen Hedges, president of Lifesavers, said: "Charles pushes himself to the very limit and has made an exceptional contribution to life-saving by providing life-saving education to some 53,000 children."

He has also successfully promoted the Save A Baby's Life campaign, training up to 300 parents and carers on life-saving techniques in a year.

Ms Hamilton has been an active member of Lifesavers since 1982 and in 1992 took on the role of branch secretary. Ms Hedges said Georgina regularly helped give life-saving courses throughout the county and has worked in schools, ensuring PE staff remain up-to-date with life saving and life support.

Ms Valerie Graham-Clare, of New House Park, St Albans, Ms Susan Hill, of St Leonards Crescent, St Albans and Ms Angela Robinson, of High Firs Crescent, Harpenden all received the certificate of thanks for over four years continuous service to Lifesavers.
