LUCY YATES helped herself to a double serving of success on August 17 and 18, to confirm her status as one of the top young athletes in the county.
Competing in the South East Series Junior Triathlon in Sussex on Saturday, the 12-year-old from St Albans comfortably claimed victory before producing a stunning performance in an Eastern Youngs Athletic League fixture for Watford Harriers at Bedford 24 hours later.
Although essentially a triathlete, Yates' performance in the 1,500m this season must have left her trainers in something of a quandary as to how best utilise her undoubted talent and she did little to ease their headache on Sunday after knocking three seconds off her personal best to clock 5.14.00.
More impressive was the fact that Yates came home more than seven seconds ahead of second-placed Debbie Samuels, who had beaten Yates in the Herts County 1,500m championships.
