BROADCASTER Sir Trevor McDonald OBE is encouraging Hertfordshire people to raise their cups to help Macmillan Cancer Relief support people living with cancer.

Sir Trevor wants people to support the World's Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday, September 27.

Now in its 12th year, the world record holding event, which saw more than a million people taking part last year, aims to raise £3.5 million in 2002.

He said: "We all know someone with cancer. The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is a fun and simple way for you to help Macmillan support the million people currently living with cancer in the UK, so where will you hold yours?"

Macmillan in Hertfordshire is raising £2.1million for more Macmillan nurses in the county, a befriending scheme in Barnet, and an extension to the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital.

Patient grants will also continue to be provided for people with cancer who are in financial difficulty because of their illness.
