As a Reform Jew opposed to the eruv simply because I think it is daft, I still cannot help feeling that my friend and neighbour Norman Burgess has gone a little far in labelling it a "monstrous and divisive system of poles and fishing wire" (Times Letters, August 15).
There has to come a time when defeated opponents of any scheme have to admit that they have lost.
The fact is that the vast majority of those of us who oppose it will never even know it is there. For instance, it is to run along the tube line from Finchley Central to East Finchley.
Who knows or cares how many wires run parallel to the track?
