THE famous Lashings Cricket Club visit the Shenley Cricket Centre in Radlett Lane, Shenley, on Sunday, June 23, to face a Shenley Lions select XI with the list of participating players reading more like a who's who of cricket, rather than your average Sunday league team-sheet.

Top of the list is Shoaib Akhtar, officially the fastest bowler ever to play the game.

Playing for Pakistan against New Zealand in April this year, Akhtar's delivery was measured at 100.04 miles per hour the first time a player has ever bowled at over 100 miles per hour.

The controversial player his bowling action, which utilises a double-jointed elbow has often been called into question is one of the top bowlers in the world, with his best test figures of 5-24, achieved against the West Indies in January.

Joining Akhtar who is specially flying home from Austrailia after Pakistans' successful series there will be the likes of Sri Lankan legend Aravinda De Silva, former Middlesex captain Angus Fraser, Zimbabwe's Trevor Gripper and Stuart Carlisle and West Indies' Stuart Williams, Richie Richardson, Jimmy Adams and Sherwin Campbell in what is certain to be a spectacular day of cricket action.

The action starts at 1pm with a barbecue and refreshment tent also on hand for spectators.

Entry costs £5.50 for adults, £3.50 for children and concessions with a £3.00 charge for car-parking.
