Simon Clarke, Hendon's Player of the Year, has left the club.

The Dons' longest-serving player, Clarke, who made over 350 first team appearances, had originally signed for the coming season but a change in personal circumstances would have made it difficult for him to travel to Hendon on a regular basis.

In acknowledgement of his long and distinguished career at Claremont Road, manager Dave Anderson agreed to cancel Clarke's registration in order that he could continue playing and be free to sign for a club closer to his home.

"I am very sorry to lose Simon," said Anderson. "Throughout his time here, he has been a model pro and will be greatly missed. In fact the only person more sorry to see him go than me is Simon himself. It will be a wrench for him leaving his many friends here.

As well as thanking him for his excellent service, I wish him the very best of luck for the future and if his circumstances were to change, he would always be welcome back."

Clarke said: "I have had some terrific times at Hendon, and I am sorry to be leaving the club. The supporters have always been great to me and I appreciate the support and encouragement they and the directors have always given. It's like leaving one big happy family.

"I fully appreciate Dave's co-operation following my unforeseen change of circumstances and wish Dave, the players and everyone at Hendon every possible success."

Meanwhile, Anderson has added two experienced and highly-rated players to his squad.

Striker Rob Haworth has signed from Sutton United, and former Barnet midfielder Kieron Gallagher has joined from Slough.
