Rye House...53

Trelawny...37

(Speedway Premier League)

THE Rockets ran out comfortable winners in this home clash with Trelawny on Saturday, although the winning margin could have been much higher.

The Tigers have been one of the teams to watch so far this season reaching the final of the Premier Trophy and in the last two heats they showed why.

Two 5-1s to the visitors in heats 14 and 15 took the shine off an aggressive Rye House performance which was a vast improvement on last week's clash with Berwick.

The hosts had welcomed Newcastle number one Andre Compton into their line-up as a guest for American ace Brent Werner, who was first reserve in a World Championship qualifier in the Czech Republic. And Compton certainly provided great value, going unbeaten in his first four outings including a sensational finishing line overtake of Emiliano Sanchez on one wheel in heat ten.

In what was a good all-round performance by the Rockets, Scott Robson recorded his first paid maximum in Rye House colours while Nigel Sadler continued his good June form as the highest points scorer with 12.

For the Tigers, Steve Masters scored ten points without ever really impressing while reserve Simon Phillips went well again at Hoddesdon with a race win and two paid wins in those last two heats.

The Rockets travel to Hull tonight (Wednesday) to face the Vikings for the first ever league match-up in the long histories of these two teams.

This fixture should also provide an interesting insight to how things might go when the two sides clash at the end of July in the second round of the Knockout Cup.

Then it is back to Hoddesdon on Saturday for Rye House's league clash with Sheffield, who in Sean Wilson currently have the best rider in the league this year.

Meanwhile Rye House's Conference side the Raiders kept their recent winning league run going with an convincing 65-25 home victory over King's Lynn.

A five-ride full house for 15-year-old Edward Kennett and three supporting paid maximums told the story of this one-sided affair at Hoddesdon on Monday.
