Police are continuing to investigate the cause of a fire at garages in Borehamwood's Danziger Way on Monday last week.

A police spokeswoman said two schoolboys, wearing burgundy blazers, had been seen going into the garage shortly before the fire.

The blaze, which caused a wall to collapse and badly damaged two cars, was tackled by three fire engines, after the fire service was alerted at 1.09pm. Witnesses reported hearing two loud bangs.

Hertfordshire scenes of crime police officers attended the scene of the blaze, which police and the fire service believe could have been started deliberately.

The following day, Shenley Manor had to be evacuated while firefighters extinguished a blaze at the residential accomodation in Shenley's Grace Avenue.

Following a call at 8.36pm, Borehamwood firefighters arrived to find a gas-fired boiler room alight, and three other fire engines came to their assistance from Radlett, Garston and Potters Bar.

Borehamwood Sub Officer Bob Williams said: "The crews did excellently. Because it was on the second floor, we were worried the fire would spread to the roof and we would have had a major fire if it had.

"Because we were so quick, we managed to douse the flames."
