A TALENTED duo of fencers from the Three Rivers Young Blades Club (TRYB), Rickmansworth returned successful from a highly competitive East of England under 14 Foil Championships held recently at Brentwood School, Essex.

In a field of more than 20 fencers, Guy Edmunds claimed first place after winning the final by the narrowest of margins, 15 hits to 14.

Nicholas Barton was an agonising loser in the other semi final but had the consolation of claiming third place.

Both Edmunds and Barton will now go on to represent the East Of England in the British National Youth championships to be held in February in Stoke-on-Trent.

A fortnight earlier, Barton's elder brother, Philip, finished second in the under 16 Sabre East of England competition and he too qualifies to represent the region at the National Championships next year.

TRYB club meets on a Monday and Thursday evening at the Royal Masonic School for Girls in Rickmansworth. For more details contact Professor David Austin on 01923 776335 or visit www.watfordfencingclub.co.ukf=GillSans s=12 f=bFENCING
