(Essex Intermediate League)IT WAS a very satisfactory afternoon for the Silver Leys side as they took full advantage of their game in hand to close the gap at the top of the table to four points.
Talented teenage signing Christoph Gombert opened the scoring after 22 minutes with a classic strike from the edge of the area, his fierce left foot shot leaving the home keeper stranded.
Swifts looked safe after the half-hour mark when Glen Jackman made it 2-0.
After half time Steve Luxford helped himself to two goals and his strike partner Ian Hollamby one, the best goal of the game being a 25-yard drive into the top corner of the net from Luxford for Swifts' fifth goal.
With the reserve game being called off at short notice, Chris Perry was asked to travel with the first team and made a telling contribution during his 15-minute run out, scoring the final goal.
Next week, Swifts are on the road with a Herts Intermediate Cup clash against Cheshunt.
